LILY HUMPHRIES
My name is Lily Humphries and I specialise in product photography. I have always been interested in texture, detail, shape, tone, and highlights. When experimenting in the first year of my degree, I enjoyed using multiple exposure. This allowed me to create interesting textures through post production and layering where I discovered digital manipulation. Learning these new skills has opened my eyes to the work that goes on behind the scenes of magical still life photographs that we are surrounded by.
I know my work has grown immensely in the past year and I am proud to be a part of this group project, working with several inspiring individuals to share our work with others. Inspired by the work of photographers like Dina Belenko, I thrive to photograph creative, playful, fun and impactful images, resulting in a body of work that I am proud of.
I have produced a set of five finalised product photographs for Lewes Station Gallery “Seeing Through Monochrome”. I enjoy creating magical whimsical photographs that appear to be defying gravity, like a captured moment before everything falls.
In this body of work, I have taken inspiration from the word monochrome, exploring colour in a new way. Having a restriction when creating a body of work like this has pushed me to produce experimental ideas that I wouldnt of thought to pursue otherwise. This magical fruit series experiments with composition and colour placement. I chose to use the word monochrome as my starting point.
Most of my past projects used the theme or title as a starting point. The work may not appear to relate to the theme at first glance but when you see the path taken with all the linked research and experimentation, it all falls into place. There are a few hints of colour variety in my images but I based my series on a close colour palette. The word monochrome started the journey but doesn't have to define the work.
I can’t wait to see my style develop as I produce more creative images. In the future, I would love to work with a team in this industry, this will allow me to pick up tips and tricks from other photographers with years of experience, allowing me to grow even more in my practice.
